Started bidding on biddingfortravel.com PL link at $50 for a 3.5* downtown Raleigh with 8 free rebids; increased by $2-3 per bid and won the Doubletree Brownstone at $69 near NCSU with free parking and internet, which is what I was hoping for.
According to the biddingfortravel Hotel list for the Downtown Raleigh zone, there are three 3.5* hotels: Marriott, Sheraton and the Doubletree which are reflected on PL deals with descending price points of $199, $138 and $114 respectively for the night of 1/19/18. Hotwire had a 3.5* at $75, which I guessed might be the least expensive of these three (with no guarantees of course), the Doubletree. Of course Hotwire might have a different hotel list than PL. Nonetheless, I started the bidding $25 less than that lowest 3.5* $75 Hotwire price at a $50 initial bid and was ready to stop at the total Hotwire price with taxes/fees of $96 which would have been about a high PL bid of $74.
Very happy with this winning bid for the Doubletree at $69, $17.54 taxes and fees for a total cost of $86.54 for a $10 savings over Hotwire offering; called the Doubletree directly and put in a request for a room with a king bed, which is listed on their website at a rack rate of $139/N.
