johnthedog, Sounds like you know a great deal about Barbados and used to go often. You recently mentioned that you haven't been there for about 3 years, really not my business, but, is there a reason why you haven't returned...as in other great places to visit? I only ask as I love Barbados and would go more often if time and money permitted.

Hi Susie, my wife & I did indeed go at least once, sometimes twice a year after visiting other islands & not finding what we were looking for. We were fortunate in finding a couple of places that were perfect for us, not posh nor expensive but an ideal location up in St.Peter, both now sadly gone. The demise of our favourite places to stay coupled with my wife becoming a very nervous flyer has lead to us not going as often as we would like. Last time we rented a beautiful house opposite Mullins (with two other couples!) our next visit will be two days while our cruise ship is in port this coming January. We mostly cruise these days as we live near Southampton, I doubt if we shall return to BDS for an air based visit. Still love the place but I must admit I loved where we stayed & that beach ..Mullins/Gibbes/Reids area.

Hi johnthedog, Sounds like you had some lovely times in Barbados, I bet you are really looking forward to your visit, even if it is for a short time. My husband and I will be there for the 4th time in Jan., and I am already starting to count down the days. We will be staying at Jentilla, have not stayed on the west coast before, so I am really looking forward to it.

Hope you like the West, I take it that you have stayed down South before? very different to the South up West, you do realise there is literally hardly anything to do within walking distance unless things have changed since I was last there. Our days up there are spent with a walk along the beach before breakfast, then just spending the day either on & around the beach or off in the car, dinner & a few drinks, bed by midnight easily. The beaches up there are ideal for me, I don't like big expanses of sand in built up areas, I like to imagine myself as a castaway & if the weather has been kind to the beaches you can walk for miles without seeing hardly anyone, turn right out of Jentilla & you can walk (erosion permitting) as far as Speightstown, turn left you can go as far as Reid's & even further with scrambling & a bit of a detour along the road.

Hi jtd, I think we will be quite happy with the west coast. We like simple things such as walking on the beach, reading books, and we actually cook a lot of our meals. Not party people at all, but do like a drink or two...usually in bed by 10 or 11 p.m. I'm just happy to be there to enjoy the warmth, the sunshine and all the sights. Will write a review when we return!

We used to meet up with other regular visitors & go out for dinner at a different place every night, sometimes posh sometimes not.

It was a great time of our lives, we used to look forward to our time there usually over Xmas. Restaurants were usually booked well in advance by one person who took resposibility for that side, just asked for a table for 12 & we always filled it. But like all things people stop going for one reason or another & you lose contact, shame but that's how it is. Then the hotels we liked closed down (you will see the derelict buildings of Kings Beach North of Jentilla) .
