Hi I'm Steve Axtell designer of the Axtell Expressions line of puppet characters.

My team and I at Axtell Expressionshttp://www.axtell.com build these puppet for performers like yourself and you bring them to life. This MAGIC MOMENT is a big step and it fascinates me. I receive many questions about how to take a one of our puppets and build it into a full blown character that will be a hit to an audience and and create a memorable impression, so I began to examine the process.

I call this the "MAGIC MOMENT" to describe what happens when your puppet comes to life for the first time...it often surprises us how quickly a voice and personality begin to take shape. It is an amazing moment when it can become anything you want it to be, but often it takes off in a strong direction and just happens!

It's the moment of discovery.... character, personality, life, voice, eye contact, manipulation all come together at this moment. Sometimes it's immediate, sometimes it comes in stages over time.

To me it is the simplest yet one of the most powerful forms of MAGIC, so I wanted to explore the process with some pros who we can all learn from. These videos were shot at the VENT HAVEN Ventriloquist Convention in Ft. Mitchell, KY in 2011. You can find out more about the conVENTion at-http://www.venthaven.com

I hope you enjoy the series of THE MAGIC MOMENT videos!

Pete Michaels is one of my favorite vents.... This was supposed to be a 2 camera shoot, but we had a technical issue. We are very fortunate to see Pete and the Magic Moment from any angle! Enjoy!
