I have seen, I think, every play of every game this season.  To this point we have thrown to the tight end twice; one caught, one dropped.  We might as well be playing three offensive tackles.

Ya. For all the hype in spring and fall about getting TE more involved. Hasn’t transferred over to the game. I don’t know. Stidham has so many weapons to throw may the TE is just way down the progressions.

I often wondered about this since Gus has been at AU.  He just will not use the middle of the field unless it is a deep post.

Opponents know this too when they play chart us and game plan thier defense for us.  I think in Gus's book he just wants to work the flats (sides) to try and tire out defenses.  The last chart I saw on us last week had a heavy readout of us passing to the left side.  Maybe our QB just likes that side or just the way things worked out. LINK

There was so much discussion about us finally using tight ends this year pre season.  Not sure what happened.  I even read a story about the Sal kid that talked about his recruitment.  He is a black belt by the way.  He asked Gus during his recruitment why he never throws to a tight end.  Gus told him we have to start this year.

I guess there is still time?  Lol don't count on it changing with Gus.

We still run a very simplistic passing game.  That part has not changed.  It is the same as all the years Malzahn has been at Auburn., except that we used to have short passing plays to Eric Smith (?) in 2009 and 2010.

We do nothing short and over the middle, we have no quick pass plays, we never have a safety valve receiver, the only time we ever ran slants was when we had Duke Williams and we quit running those..  We rave about Will Hasting's agility but have no plays designed to exploit it.  (He may actually be too small for quick, short passes but I bet he could get open).

All the television shows is the ball so I have no knowledge of who is doing what, but somebody pointed out that we don't seem to use the middle of the field.  Yes, we threw effectively to Smith.  Trey Mason and CAP were thrown to successfully.  As accurately as this qb can throw, the passing game needs to continue to evolve.

We DO hit Hastings over the middle, in fact he dropped one vs Ol miss.  And the TD to Davis was a quick pass in the flats.

Also, he passes to the speed sweep guy once or twice a game.

Remember, we only pass about 20-25 times a game, there are only so many places to pass, and 5-8 will be down the field.

You guys are starting to sound like those FB people.  We actually have 7 passes for over 40 yards in the last 3 games.
did you read what I just said?

7 PASSES FOR OVER 40 YEARDS IN THE LAST 3 GAMES!!!!

So NOW you want more passes across the middle.  oh, btw, we have won 4 in a row.  VS SEC teams.

geeze....

Love it Grad. I have watched AU for 40+ yrs. I have NEVER seen us have a more accurate QB. Ever. Ya would I like to see the TE get a ball or 2. Yep. I like seeing those big guys hammer the LBs after a catch and run.

I'm simply stating the obvious.  I'm thrilled to be winning and believe that we can win ever game on the schedule. But good teams build every week.  Offenses become more creative because everybody has seen what you have.  If we are able to get to UGA unscathed, we need to show them some new sh-t.  Same for the turds.

We are happy about the wins but you need to try and understand where we are coming from.  Look at who we have beat.  This is the worst SEC I have seen in my lifetime.  We beat Ole Miss, MSU, and MZ.  Come on man you need to realize the situation here.  Do you honestly think we can beat UGA, Bama, and a bowl game?

We are trying to tell you people there are problems with this program. We are all on the same team here.  I feel some fans have blinders on which is thier right to do so.  Just dont be shocked again when the season goes south once we get to the real teams and the bowl game and get our a$$e$$ kicked like we always do.  Just saying.

There is some good yes.  But I am with augolfnut.  We need to be progressing because the real games are coming in November and Saban and Kirby know our play book  better than Gus knows it.

Just for fun here is a artical about Bama and how they study film.  They have about 100 staff people break down film of opponents all year long of every team on their schedule.  They know the play before you hike the ball and have been working on how to defend it.  Advantage defense.  This is why thier pro draft picks are always bust in the NFL.  They dont have that kind of advantage.    Here is an example (LINK).  I have known this for years.  I saw a bama player interviewed once on tv he even knew when a certian O lineman lined up in a 3 point stance it was a run to the left 100% of the time.  That is the kind of teams we go up against twince a year now.  We have a Saban in the West and a Saban (Kirby Smart) in the East we have to face every year in Amen corner.

I know this is about Auburn but I use these types of things to demonstraight a point.  This is the kind of stuff we should have been doing for years now.  I think this is where myself and golfnut are coming from.

It is just friendly discussion all in good fun among fans and friends.  Because they wont listen to any of us so we come here to vent.  Its kind of like therapy.

Maybe we are NOT throwing across the middle and to the TE so the opponents DON'T get to prepare for that.

AND, Auburn has people breaking down film just like Alabama.  you can see it when they recognize a particular set with certain players.  We did it vs Ol miss this weekend.  the LB went crazy after seeing a set, motioned where he thought it was going.  It turned out it went the other way....

This is why I don't understand people getting onto Gus because he has only a few different sets. (he has more now).  If you can run multiple plays from the same lineup, that is then an advantage to the offense.
