I'm making a new Beat 'em Up engine "from scratch" using the lessons learned from Fortress of Fantasm and AxeQuest. You can test it here:

At the moment, Shift jumps and X kicks.

This will hopefully become the long awaited "Universal Beat 'em Up Engine" I've been meaning to create since starting Flash. The theory behind the UBE is that I can use the exact same engine for multiple games by just switching out the graphics and move sets, without having to completely rebuild it each time like the previous titles.

Oh wait, you're here already...

Sorry I don't much to show right now, but don't worry. I am working diligently behind the scenes, and I will have a new beat 'em up for you all to play shortly. The above project has been more or less canceled and I've been experiencing a lot of changing ideas and false starts ever since.

However, I have a new plan that I absolutely adore and I am very motivated to complete it.

The name is Super Defense Force. The SDF is a crime fighting organization that hires powerful warriors to fight the most dangerous of international criminals. My plan is to make it somewhat of a cross between a modernized version of The Super Friends or Justice League using jobclasses instead of individual heros and a massive multimedia crossover using satirical spoof versions to avoid copyright infringement. The "jobclasses" are based on what I consider to be standard heroic archetypes in modern (or 90s) TV shows and video games. To reduce work, the jobclasses will work both as playable characters and enemies, although there will also be a few henchman types to beat up. My plan is to make the first game using 4-6 characters and expand with various sequels.

Part of what makes me think this will be legal is that none of these characters are spoofs of any particular individual character. Here's a list of the inspirations I'll be using:

Agent: Fujiko Mine, Totally Spies, Erin Esurance, James Bond
Magigirl: Sailor Moon, Nonoha, CC Sakura, Dokuro-chan, Cutie Honey
Android: Megaman, KOS-MOS, Jenny, Curly, Kula Diamond, real-life female robots
Martialist: Dragon Ball, Street Fighter, King of Fighters, Tekken, etc.
X-Soldier: Cloud Strife, Dart Feldt, Fazz (hoshigami), Lyner, Sigfried & Nightmare, Ichigo
Ranger: Super Sentai/Power Rangers, Kamen Rider, Metal Hero, Prism Rangers (one may argue that that is cheating)

Oh wait, you're here already...
