I think Joseph went more in depth on the gameplay, but I don't like how he brings up the length of the game as an issue, and factors value into it. Matthew actually addressed the futility of these kind of complaints in his DMC commentary.

Also, some of you might find these articles interesting

I think he made a number of good points, but was a bit harsh overall. I'd probably consider Novacanoo the best reviewer at this point in time. I'm not going to compare Fatman to any of them, for several reasons, but I'll say, Chris Wager probably would have got on with him fairly well. I spent a good bit of time reading through a lot of his articles. He's a highly educated game critic. I don't always agree with him of course, and I'm sure Fatman would have highly disagreed with him on the topic of immersion, but he's someone who goes extremely in-depth on gameplay, and doesn't much care for any other element of games at all. He would have inspired the likes of Novacanoo and Turbo Button. Possibly Joseph Anderson too.

ahah it doesn't take an expert to see how Matthewmatosis' "reviews" are completely ridiculous in terms of prioritization of game elements. He has his moments, but imo it feels like he's making the reviews in order to point out what he managed to see and find. I do think there is narcissism involved. His "critiques" are definitely not aiming to be fair assessments of commercial/artistic products. They're about what he sees in games. They really are about him and his experiences, imo.

anyway who gives a shit

I never felt there was narcissism involved with him. Chris actually admitted that he was wrong to call him out on that. I get narcissistic vibes from other reviewers, but I never got it from Matthew. It is always hard to know what goes on in their head though. But I will say, his complaints about the door separating the upper and lower Burg, were nit picky bullshit, and Chris was right to point that out.

Yes he admits he was wrong and goes on to describe a narcissist.

He might just like talking about those things, even if he could do with cutting down on it.
