OK, here's a report on Mary Poppins auditions that were in Atlanta Sunday. There were maybe 120-150 kids or so (a guess). They took groups of 15-20, they said their names, then some were dismissed (including my 2 dd's), then the ones that made that cut sang, then more cuts & come back for reading from the script later in the evening. They said they were doing a possible callback on Wed. (tomorrow) As our dd's were out right away, I don't have much more to report. The people who ran the audition were super nice, it was a positive experience for our kids, and we had a blast sightseeing in Atlanta. As far as girls who got cut right away without even singing, it was the larger (haha 4'8" or 9" or above) and smaller (tiny) girls. So small but not tiny girls kept, mostly dark hair, very petite. They said they didn't want to buy new costumes, so they had very specific sizes in mind. Any besides us there? Anybody make the wed. callback? If so, congrats!

My child attended the Atlanta auditions this past weekend and made it through to the call backs held yesterday. At Sunday’s open call, as Holly described, they took the kids in groups and each child stated their name, age and where they were from. First cut. Those that were left sang their own audition song. Second cut. The kids were given a four page script with firm instructions to the parents not to rehearse their child. All the kids given scripts were told to return later that afternoon. Upon returning, the kids were warmed up and run through Supercal… each child then sang 16 bars or so alone and then again in small groups. Third cut. They paired boys and girls together and had each pair read through the scene. Fourth cut. The remaining kids were asked to return Wednesday for a call back with the associate producer. They were again given the four page script to take home and memorize for Wednesday. At call backs, the kids began with an hour of acting workshop type techniques, quick break and then back in for a couple more rounds of singing and some scene work. No cuts were made. All the kids seemed to have had a great time and the casting director and associate director were wonderful to the children and parents. There were a variety sizes and hair colors in the final group of kids. I believe they weeded it down to 8-10 pairs of Michael's and Jane's. This was a well run audition and a very positive experience.
