Welcome!
Bear with this website as it has just transitioned to a new forum type, so posts are not going through as easily.  The administrator is working on it, though, so hopefully...

Anyway, so, were you an actual Ani-Mayhem employee, or were you just assisting with events and such?  Either way, share some stories please!

No problem, was just poking my head in when I saw the site.

Yes I was an employee of Pioneer entertainment responsible for the ani-mayhem card game. I was responsible for traveling to different conventions and promote information the game along with organizing the national demonstrators network at other shows. I was also in charge of officiating rules when questions/conflicts arose.

An example of rules conflict.
In the DBZ set I'm sure everyone has received a misprint black blank card, these are visible on the uncut card sheets as well. As fans wrote in, they asked what the card was supposed to be or if there was a rule in place for it. Due to legal reasons, Pioneer needed to have a rule in place for the blank cards. So when asked to make a ruling I jokingly said " it is a non counterable flash effect where the player instantly wins the game regardless of number of items collected. This card can only be played by the current or former ani-mayhem event coordinator."  They liked the idea so this is now the official rule. I told them it was a joke, but it was the one time I got overruled by the execs at Pioneer.  So while a neat card for me, it meant that I stopped playing in official tournaments cause that would be kinda unfair.

Wow! Really cool story there. I hope that you'll share more. So, do you still have your Ani-Mayhem cards, and if so, do you still get chances to play them?

I still have my sets and tournament winning decks but nothing in the way of the mass amount of singles I used to. I do however have my collection of Nabiki Tendou cards (754 total). I don't play anymore, most of my anime attention is focused as a Director of the NAn Desu Kan convention in Denver, CO.
I still have a few sealed boxes of boosters and starters that make for a nice display area in my office, along with my uncut sheet collection.

Hello again Scott.
I've got a few of the black blanks, and it is on the uncut sheets. What's the story on the white blank and double black blank?

There were never rules made for double blanks because they couldn't be used in a game setup without being seen as a blank.  Ultimately all the blanks were the result of poor quality control and a demand to get the DBZ set pushed out early. Pioneer had just secured the rights to DBZ and anime expo and gen con were on the horizon so they wanted to have something to hand out to attendees. Even the playtest cards weren't correctly printed, they are just black and white cards on flimsy card stock (I still have my set of these in storage) . This is s also why there are misprints/double version of a few other DBZ set cards, there was no time to proof anything so as they set up card sheets, some spaces were simply left blank.

Makes sense. The black blanks are on the sheets. The white card is an odd one.

Misprints are fun. I've been sleeving a my backlog of singles and found a few that have extra bolded text.
Set 0, nothing. Set 1 printer errors, Set 2 - where to start.

What uncut sheets do you have in your collection? White border Set Zero or anything from Set One?

I know I have a few sets of the full DBZ sheets, two sets of the set 0 three sheets. Most of my extras are in storage since I don't have a ton of display space. Pretty sure I have full set of set 1 sheets. I don't think I have a full set of set 0 sheets but I'm pretty sure I have 2-3 of those.

When I took over at Pioneer I got a few big boxes of misc. promo stuff, what's left of it is in boxes in my attic. I might dig them out when I remodel my office.

Hello Scott,

Thanks for all the info! I am glad you were able to post! Its great to have more people who can add so much to our discussions on here! Thank you for joining!

To everyone on the forum, it seems like you guys can all post now with out any issues?

I had to hunt down some tutorials and stuff to find out why everything I did wasn't changing your permissions but I think I have it fixed. You should all have access to post whatever, wherever and won't require any approval.
