I'm looking into the loop starting from Kiosk lake, camping for 3 nights on Maple, Three Mile, then Manitou. I would either attempt it solo this weekend, or with a group in early September... or maybe just do my research for next season. I'm relatively experienced though I've never been to the north end of the park.
I think my main questions are...
1. What are my canoe rental options if I wanted a solo boat? I've spoken with Algonquin North and they have 1 in their fleet, though it's a bit heavier than I was hoping, since I'd like to single carry some portages if I'm able.
2. Between the 1355m and 310m portages, east of Manitou going towards Kiosk, it looks like there are rapids on the Amable du Fond River just before the 310m portage? I'm inexperienced with rapids, and if I decide to do this solo I'd like to be aware of any, as well as any other issues I might encounter on this route.
For Canoe Rentals, I believe your only other option is to rent one further south and bring it up with you.
As for the rapids, there are portages around all of them. At this time of year the water may be low on the river. You may therefore need to do the 440 as well as the 310 due to low water levels but you will not have to travel any rapids.
