Hello All,
As you read in the title, I'm new to this forum and somewhat new to Algonquin Park.
May of 2015, 2 of us camped and fished the East Arm of Opeongo and fell in love with the park. We had a successful fishing trip to say the least. We are planning a May 2016 trip and want to get deeper into the park. We are thinking 4 days, 3 nights. My 85 year old neighbour has told me stories about Dickson being his favourite spot to fish. I am concerned about the blue-green algae, is that still an issue? I'm also aware of the 5km portage to get there, not to concerned about that, that's part of the experience. My 82 year old grandfather has told me stories about Happy Isle, Redrock and Merchant and about the 20lb laker that dragged his canoe around one of those lakes (of course all his stories are 40-50 years old).
I have a 16' fishing boat and a canoe. I'm trying to weigh my options. Camp on Opeongo and hike to either Dickson, a Happy Isle, Redrock or just pay for the shuttle and drop us off and camp on a back lake.
Any advice or recommendations?
