I needed some scratch built parts for a What-If build I'm working on, so I decided to try CAD plus 3-D printing . . . the parts arrived today.
Here's the result.

End view of the parts,

side view,

and a close up showing the striations resulting from the printing process, which will be easily removed by a light rub-down.

cheers,
Robin.

"Like" for #33 because I can actually see state of the art 3D printing of pieces that haven't been fettled yet!

Engine nacelles, think of a big radial engine on the blunt end, and pylons on the sides, attaching to the aeroplane's wings . . .
Some  technical details. The parts are 47mm long, and 16mm wide. They were printed by Shapeways.com, using their Frosted Ultra Detail Plastic, the layer thickness is 0.029mm.
I designed the parts using Self CAD, which is a browser based CAD tool similar to TinkerCAD. And with the shipping, there's 20 quids worth of plastic there . . .  🤓

cheers,
Robin.

It looks like it's definitely worth paying extra for the Frosted Ultra Detail Plastic. I bought a 1/72 Semple Tank from Shapeways and unfortunately choose the regular printing service. The printing lines were terrible and the plastic (Nylon) was impossible to sand smooth. One of the local (NZ) model retailers offers a 3D printing service now especially for modellers. I think he uses ABS plastic - you still get the lines but they're easy to sand off.

Just received the RAF Bomber Re-supply set.
Its missing the Standard vehicle but he put in an AEC Refueller.
I thought it a bargain at the price purchased, have you seen the cost of the refueller set with postage ??.
I'm happy 😍

A few things arrived this week. I was looking for the Xtradecal Argentine Skyhawk sheet for one of the schemes with the yellow stripe. Zip at Hannant's, but an ebay search threw up this Skyhawk kit split from the DFD set.

Another ebay win was this Special Hobby Skua.

Star of the show this week.

A bit of an indulgence, but I've reached that stage in life where you might as well eat, drink and be merry!
