Google on Hidden Content

Will Google penalize you for doing this?

A website site has a 'Read More' dropdown window that coexists with the sites simplistic design elements. The drop down box contains optimized content, keyword anchor text linking deeper into the site, etc.

Hope this helps,

I'm not sure what the supposed benefits of hiding content behind a drop down would be other than having a cleaner looking site and I'm surprised Google is treating it like there are alternative motives. If anyone knows what they would be please tell me.

If you're hiding it, can google see it? Can they index it? That would be the only reason I can see to do this. Google can't touch anything inside an iFrame so if it's something you don't want to show in search engines and only reveal to people browsing the site... maaaybe, otherwise I really don't know.
