I thought I may have seen it under the header tank when i changed it but was not sure? Having said that Im not sure if thats the problem - the fan and red light on the temp gauge is coming on and stop lamp with no obvious overheating problem but pipes into radiator are 1 hot and 1 cold but I flushed it when I did the header tank! Trapped air maybe - it only happens every few days!!!!

Unless in combination with a high temperature those symptoms are normally caused by a low coolant level.

The thermostat is located on the side of the engine above the gearbox.

The prob has cured itself?? one of the last times it happenned i had driven a quarter of a mile and on came the stop sign and the fan and plenty of coolant in tank. The new tank obviously cured the leak but i still dont know what caused the light to come on, anyhow its ok now.
