Nothing extremely different installing updates on Windows 10 versus other Windows Operating Systems (XP, 7, 8, etc.).  The instructions might vary if your running Windows on a MAC, I don't own a MAC so I can't confirm those differences, if any.

Here are instructions for each game.  Depending on the version of the game you own, the YEAR used in the instructions will be different, just substitute with the correct YEAR.  Also, there are other ways to install the updates, but I have found these steps to be the easiest for most people to understand and have the best success especially if your a novice with computers.

How Do You Know When Updates are Available

There are the common ways to know when an update is available for one or more of the titles.

1)  Check the Game Updates forum on a regular basis.  (game-updates-f18/)

2)  Subscribe to the DKSports newsletter and often update news is sent via email.  (http://www.dksports.com/maillist.htm)

3)  Check the Service Updates page on a regular basis.  (http://www.dksports.com/service.htm)   ---- if you don't see the update, press ctrl+f5 to clear page cache)

4)  Word of mouth within the forums.  Often one of the forum members will notice an update has been made available and shares the news within the forum of the game that was updated.  (https://www.tapatalk.com/groups/actionpcsports/)

Baseball Service Update Installation Procedure

1)  Go to http://www.dksports.com/service.htm (if you don't see the update, press ctrl+f5 to clear page cache)

2)  Download the update file to a directory such as c:\temp   (it can be any directory you want)

3)  Use an unzip tool to extract the contents of the Baseball2018.zip file to c:\temp.  The only file it contains is Baseball2018.EXE

4)  Copy the c:\temp\Baseball2018.EXE file to C:\Program Files (x86)\Baseball2018 directory   (assuming that is where you installed the original game)

5)  Before it copies, you may receive a Windows warning about overwriting an existing file and/or asking for permission....if you get this, choose the option to proceed.

6)  To confirm you installed correctly, open the game and access the menu Help->About....confirm the date is the same as the update.

Basketball Service Update Installation Procedure

1)  Go to http://www.dksports.com/service.htm (if you don't see the update, press ctrl+f5 to clear page cache)

2)  Download the update file to a directory such as c:\temp   (it can be any directory you want)

3)  Use an unzip tool to extract the contents of the Basketball2017.zip file to c:\temp.  The only file it contains is Basketball2017.EXE

4)  Copy the c:\temp\Basketball2017.EXE file to C:\Program Files (x86)\Basketball2017 directory   (assuming that is where you installed the original game)

5)  Before it copies, you may receive a Windows warning about overwriting an existing file and/or asking for permission....if you get this, choose the option to proceed.

6)  To confirm you installed correctly, open the game and access the menu Help->About....confirm the date is the same as the update.

Football Service Update Installation Procedure

1)  Go to http://www.dksports.com/service.htm (if you don't see the update, press ctrl+f5 to clear page cache)

2)  Download the update file to a directory such as c:\temp   (it can be any directory you want)

3)  Use an unzip tool to extract the contents of the Football2017.zip file to c:\temp.  The only file it contains is Football2017.EXE

4)  Copy the c:\temp\Football2017.EXE file to C:\Program Files (x86)\Action! PC Football 2017 directory   (assuming that is where you installed the original game)

5)  Before it copies, you may receive a Windows warning about overwriting an existing file and/or asking for permission....if you get this, choose the option to proceed.

6)  To confirm you installed correctly, open the game and access the menu Help->About....confirm the date is the same as the update.

Hockey Service Update Installation Procedure

1)  Go to http://www.dksports.com/service.htm (if you don't see the update, press ctrl+f5 to clear page cache)

2)  Download the update file to a directory such as c:\temp   (it can be any directory you want)

3)  Use an unzip tool to extract the contents of the Hockey2017.zip file to c:\temp.  The only file it contains is Hockey2017.EXE

4)  Copy the c:\temp\Hockey2017.EXE file to C:\Program Files (x86)\Hockey2017 directory   (assuming that is where you installed the original game)

6)  To confirm you installed correctly, open the game and access the menu Help->About....confirm the date is the same as the update.

Golf Service Update Installation Procedure

1)  Golf has an automatic service upate feature built into the game which means you don't download a service update file like the other titles.  Everytime you start the game, it checks to see if an update is availabile and your given the option to have it installed.  When the update question comes up, just choose the option to install it and everything is taking care of automatically

2)  To confirm what version of the game you have, open the game and access the menu Help->About....you'll see the latest update date.  Golf also has a special feature where it actually lists the changes made in each update.  Go to Help->About and then select the Update History tab to view.

Anti-Virus Software Considerations

Quick note about anti-virus software and impacts on installing service updates.  Some anti-virus software might detect the update as an issue because of the generic detection routines used to identify zero day threats (basically unknown threats not officially categorized).  Ultimately its is your own choice on how you deal with these detections, but typically these are false positives because the update file is relatively unknown to the anti-virus software.  There are a number of things you could do in these situations, but DO THESE AT YOUR OWN RISK.

1)  Most anti-virus software has a method to exclude files or directories from its scan.  Therefore you have the option to exclude files/directories related to DKS games and service updates.  Each anti-virus does this differently so you will need to use the software's help or search for it on the web.

2)  Some anti-virus companies have a way to submit files to their "white list" so they don't cause issues in the future.  You could do that and hopefully eventually the updates won't cause an issue.

3)  If during the installation your anti-virus removes the file because it thinks an issue exists, most software will put the file in a quarantine section versus deleting.  Per your software's directions, you can find the quarantine section and restore the file.

4) Use a FREE online virus scanner tool that uses multiple anti-virus engines to determine if a true threat.  This is a scanner I often use to validate, but of course not officially endorsing and USE AT YOUR OWN RISK (https://www.virustotal.com/#/home/upload)

5)  Evaluate using another anti-virus software for your computer that is less sensitive.

Note #1: Some people recommend turning off your anti-virus software while installing or playing the game, I personally don't recommend that method with all the potential risk out there and typically isn't necessary since one of the above methods usually works.

Note #2: Some anti-virus software may not actually remove/block the file but can impact the speed performance of the game.  If you notice the game is much slower after an update, good possibility your anti-virus is causing it.

Windows Administrative Privledges Considerations

Some users report needing to run their game with the ADMIN MODE turned on, otherwise they get errors.  Not everyone needs to do this, but if you can't get the game running after you apply the service update, you might want to give it a try.

1)  Either right-click on the game EXE file or the shortcut link on your desktop to the game file.
2)  A menu will display, select Properties
3)  Once the properties screen displays, choose the Compatability tab at the top of the screen.
4)  Select the checkbox for Runng the Game as Administrator

You would have to provide a lot more detail.....

1) What game?
2) What is the error message?  When do you get the error message?  Does it happen with every season?
3) What steps did you do?  If you followed the above, not really much you could do to hurt the install.

1. The basketball game 2017 version.
2. When I try to open the main game itself, it says fatal error. Basketball 2017.exe is incorrectly located in C/programfilesx86/
    basketball2017
3.  I thought i followed the steps as you outlined. created the temp folder etc. // Well.. somehow i was able to pull off screwing it up.

Assuming your original install was located in C:\Program Files (x86)\Basketball2017 and you simply copied the Basketball2017.exe file to that directory, a little puzzling.

Couple questions/thoughts:

1)  When you copied the file, did you get a prompt asking you to overwrite?  If not, you may not have put in the right folder.

2)  For some reason, some folks need to run the game with admin privileges turned on....you could try right-clicking on the EXE or desktop shortcut, choose properties, then go to compatibility tab.  Select option to run game in admin mode.  See if that works.

The problem may be the link.  To check this possibility, go into the Basketball2017 directory and double click the executable.  If the program runs without an error, that's likely the issue.  That is how I am now running the game, and am having no issues. For some reason the shortcut doesn't always work, at least that's what I have found with Windows 10.  But the game itself does work.

I do not know if this has anything to do with it or if you just typed the slants backward in your post above, but "C/programfilesx86/basketball2017" is not the same as "C:\Program Files (x86)\Basketball2017".  Try what Kumulonimbus suggested; I have somehow screwed up Shortcuts before and I never knew exactly how I did it, but I could always go the .exe in the game folder and it worked.
