I always wondered what the skybox at the spectrum looked
like when it was open.

Is the rink still open? Do any clubs play there?

I believe it officially closed within past year. The vikings used the ice for some practice slots.

Still had leaky roof that caused a problem in the corner on the red line.

Still remember the chainlink fence that was replaced by the glass.

Our kids would never believe that.

Remember how the rink would smell like gas from the zamboni and the boards would bend outward... Also loved the old Hockey Player Boards behind the far net with the High School Team names on it! Classic Ice Rink.

and don't forget "Zamboni Corner" where a puck or stick blade would get eaten and gone forever.

The city officially closed it in the Summer of 2010, despite having contracts with several teams to practice there. No notice was given to these teams. City stated in a Town Hall meeting the cost for up keep was too much. Not sure how that could be the case, since the building they bought from Willy was paid for a few years prior. Shame it's gone while it was old and well worn, lots of memories there and could still be used - especially with the shortage in ice for may Clubs and Teams.

I played for the Gulls. I also tried out for the saints once at the spectrum.....Chelli was on that team. Got cut. Wish the south side had a rink like Orland park back then....
