IMO there is only one league for JR's in Illinois.
GLJHL Bulldogs.

No offense intended to the other leagues, however I find the Steel very weak in skills and the proof is on the stat sheet. I think its a political can of worms that is killing the teams ability to compete.

The Na3hl is a pretty good league but the Hitman team management speaks for itself... The league dropped out of nationals IMO because they would have to play teams from the GLJHL and frankly they are terrified that everyone will find out that the GLJHL is stronger then the NA3HL.

Kutos to the GLJHL management for making sure that politics does not play a part in team choices and that even the younger players get developed.

If the other leagues don't develop their players I can't see how they can claim that they are the strongest league other then boasting that x amount of players in the past ended up in a higher league. A league can not ride the coat tails of the past forever.

Furthermore, hiding from the obvious competition my refusing to participate in season tournaments and nationals against a more talented team not only makes the situation more obvious, but it also fails to develop their own teams.

The most successful Chicago Jr's team is obvious to even the smallest minds.
The Chicago Jr Bulldogs is hands down the best managed Jr's team in the area, and it shows in the competitiveness of the team, and the success of the GLJHL.

Congratulations Jr Bulldogs for you season success, and good luck in Nationals for the 3rd year in a row.

And Good luck to all the bulldogs with their club careers while most of the steel players go D1 and most of the NA Hitmen D3

Well the Bulldogs cannot be "the best managed JR team in the area" with a whopping 58 fans per game. You simply cannot survive with no fan base unless they are charging the cap for team fees.

As far as the Steel being a poor team. It is definitely a rebuilding year from last years train wreck of a season, but they do their job 12 kids committed for D1 this season according to the USHL website. Steel can compete and have beaten some the USHL's best teams. They have had some lopsided games too, but this season a been a big improvement compare to last years. Plus they are one of the youngest teams in the league, but the new coach/GM has shown some potential for a brighter future. As far as politics and the Steel you will not find much politics at this level when it comes to rosters.

The Hitmen I do not even know where to start with them. The team ran out of money almost a month ago and the NAHL had to step and pay their ice bill because fox valley was not going to let them even in the building for their weekend games. Hammer just takes all the money for his high lifestyle. Hitmen will probably be gone after this year. The NAHL is slowly fading as well 8 teams have declared dormancy for next year already.

I have also heard rumors of a new tier 2 Jr league in the making. Anyone else hear about this?

The level you play in Jr's does not seam to determine much in the way of colleges. I have seen High School players go to D1 teams. So your theory that USHL goes to D1 and NAHL goes to D3 just doesn't seam to stand on it's own.

I do recognize however that it should work that way however many seriously skilled Jr players choose a team to try out for simply because of it's location.

Many I have seen refuse offers from out of state leagues and teams that are supposed to be a higher level hockey and then move on to ivy league schools when they age out.

I think that it's narrow minded to assume that a player at tier III will never play D1...

You are out of your mind if you think the GLJHL is anything but a bunch of future D league men's league players. Any decent bantam major aaa team would spank any team in that league, in all honestly the league should be shutdown or go to AAU nothing good will ever come from this...maybe a few good equipment managers will move up the ranks

Guy at 71.194.34.112, I understand your kid is playing for the Bulldogs but if your serious about what your saying your truely dillusional. My kid played a year in the league, improved, and has gone on to play ACHA. Good hockey but dont kid yourself, there are no USHL level kids playing in the GLJHL and you wont go D1 NCAA. Just the facts as I see it.

Oh, and please list the Illinois High School kids that went on to D1 NCAA without playing AAA and USHL. You seem to have some special knowledge.

If you are refering to my list posted above, nothing special there, I listed where the info came from a simple google search. I did a google search for Illinois HS players in D1, and did not find any results, when compared to hockeydb that did not see US or NA JR time. Research is really very simple, you should try it sometime.
