A formal proposal to re-name Harney Peak has been submitted to the U.S. Board on Geographic Names. The proposed new name would be Black Elk Peak. The U.S. Board on Geographic Names has released its Quarterly Review List of proposals to name and rename geographic features in the U.S. among the proposals is one to change the name of Harney Peak in South Dakota to Thunder Peak.

So cool to see the Feds honoring Native American history with two state highpoint name changes in the last 13 months! Denali, of course, being the other.
