For those of you who missed the "official press release" at the 2006 North Carolina Convention, I am happy to present the following preliminary information about the Wisconsin 2007 HPC Convention:

DATES: Friday, July 27 and Saturday, July 28, 2007

CONVENTION HEADQUARTERS AND SATURDAY NIGHT BANQUET LOCATION:
Stoney Creek Inn and Northwoods Conference Center
1100 Imperial Avenue
Mosinee, WI 54455

The Inn is located about seven miles south of the City of Wausau, Wisconsin, and about 65 miles from Timms Hill. It has 107 rooms, done in a comfortable Northwoods decor. We have a block of 50 rooms reserved at a rate of $84.00 per night for up to four adults. If more rooms are needed, the same rate will apply; the rate also applies for early arrivals and those who wish to stay on after Saturday. Children 17 and younger stay free. Check out the location at www.stoneycreekinn.com.

RESERVATIONS: Call 1-800-659-2220; on vocal prompts press "4" for Wisconsin, then press "1" for Wausau. Be sure to indicate that you are with the 2007 Highpointers Club Convention group to get the special rate.

NOTE: Many of the attendees at NC have already reserved rooms, so you may wish to act quickly to reserve a room. We have also reserved a block of additional rooms at the Holiday Inn, Wausau, located immediately across the street from the Stoney Creek Inn, at the same room rate. Their contact number is 1-715-355-1111.

OTHER ACTIVITIES AND HIGHLIGHTS: Tentative plans include the following: a Friday night bratwurst fry; Saturday pancake breakfast followed by a short, easy hike to the summit; longer hike on Timms Hill Trail (up to ten miles) for those who wish to do so; visit to other high points in the area; watermelon on top (of course); a brief guide and dictionary on "How to Speak Wisconsin Good"; a special commemorative T-shirt; tours of cheese factories and the Stevens POINT Brewery (of course!); maps and guides to the IL, MN and MI highpoints; and other fun stuff. We have also made special arrangements for access by HPC members to the Illinois highpoint before and after the convention. Full details on all these activities will be presented in the registration form in the Newsletter.

VOLUNTEERS: We already have a group of volunteers to head up many of these activities. If you would like to help out in this fun adventure, please contact me.

See you in Wisconsin in 2007!!!

Midwest Airlines flies to Wausau/Stevens Point. Was checking out their website and they have fantastic fares from most major cities. The highest roundtrip fare I saw was $253. They fly to other cities in Wisconsin (their hub is in Milwaukee)& Upper Peninsula as well as Minneapolis/St Paul.

Any word on exactly what access to IL "before and after the convention" means? Presumably Sunday and Thursday? Only?

Wayne has agreed to open access at IL for the convention weekend.

I am hopeful this will expand to Thu through Mon for those traveling to/from Wisconsin. I'll let you know.
