Now THIS could make for a truly interesting sight from the summit of Guadalupe Peak - a rocket launch!

A company founded by Jeff Bezos, of Amazon.com fame, is building a spaceport for sub-orbital flights about 35 miles (my calculations) south of Guadalupe Peak:

I just have to time a re-visit to the TX highpoint for one of their launches!

The Virgin-Atlantic boss - Branson I think - is setting up a spaceport in Mew Mexico about an hour north of Las Cruces. My wife and I tried to 'visit' it last May but we found nothing... except for a coupole signs. The local paper had mentioned that at the moment just some concrete pads have been set down.

I had heard of this one, too. Given that these way-out remote counties and areas need some sort of revenue, spaceports may as well be looked into. It would be an amazing sight to climb Guadalupe and watch the ships of the future blast(?) off into space. Exciting stuff.
