"Azerbaijan has signed an agreement with Israeli company Rafael to purchase anti-tank missiles Spike-SR and Spike-LR, and with the company Elbit Systems to purchase 120 mm mortars of Cardom type."

Above mentioned systems are already posessed by Azerbaijani army, this is a new order.

I scrolled down and found this article:

It seems as though Azerbaijan has $1.6 bln to spend on weapons it won't use but not a penny for its disabled.

So now Azerbaijan has two versions of Spike, a couple versions of Kornet, how many more types of systems does Azerbaijan plan to use? Everyone knows when it comes to armed forces, standardization is the last thing you want (sarcasm)

Maybe Azerbaijan wants slowly to get independent from russia? They do not start from aircrafts or helicopters of course, but from small arms, small missiles, etc...

In addition to that, different anti tank models are something like different machine guns. It doesn't matter if you have more models, if every model is similar advanced. I guess everybody who is able to shoot with a Kornet won't have problems to learn to shoot with a Spike...

But of course somewhere it has to stop...

Let's skip that... In the future azerbaijan will get more advanced turkish weapons including anti tank missiles which will replace old russian and soviet stuff. I'm sure that our brothers will choose us and not juice or russians.

Ah, so you do not like Azerbaijan dependent on Russian weapons, but are hoping to have them dependent on "future Turkish weapons" by having them buy Israeli today?

I think the Israelis are looking at good business. Azerbaijan is an oil rich nation that unlike Arab nations has no reservations purchasing Israel. I wish Armenia could sell weapons to Azerbaijan too.

Turkey was also a customer of Israel once, but situation changed. Turkey is getting an defense systems exporter. But some critical projects are not finished yet (Altay MBT, T-129 Atak Helicopter, Anti Tank missile project)..

What should azerbaijan do ? They gone for israeli equipment, which is not bad. Turkey also has Spike missiles or Rafael towers on some vehicles, mounted several years ago.

We still have problems to export some of our equipment because of engines. Germany has an arms embargo on azerbaijan and armenia.. But that won't be a big problem in the future, because there are also projects for development of 1500 & 1800 HP power packs and also engines with lower power for armoured vehicles. An engine family !

Turkish exports to azerbaijan are continuing (for example Cobra LAV, artillery rockets 107/122mm, Firtina Howitzer soon.. there was a problem with the Firtina SPH because of its german engine also, but the problem is, according to some sources, solved and another engine was used)
