The National Hockey League's Ottawa Senators announced today that the club has named Don Nachbaur as head coach of its American Hockey League affiliate, the Binghamton Senators.

Nachbaur leaves the Western Hockey League's Tri-City Americans to replace Curtis Hunt, who coached the final portion of Binghamton's 2008-09 season when Cory Clouston was promoted to the top coaching position with the NHL's Senators.  Hunt will return to the Regina Pats as their head coach for the 2009-10 WHL season.

Nachbaur replaced Cory Clouston's older brother, Shaun Clouston, when he took the reigns of the Americans in June 2003.  In his six seasons with the Ams, Nachbaur amassed a 235-155-25-7 record, earning a .592 winning percentage.  Nachbaur led the team to the playoffs each season of his tenure, winning back-to-back U.S. Division Championships in 2007-08 and 2008-09.  Nachbaur also received a Coach of the Year nod when he was awarded the prestigious WHL Dunc McCallum Memorial Trophy in 2008.

"Don did a tremendous job for the Americans, helping to stabilize our franchise with his professionalism and strong work ethic," said Bob Tory, Tri-City Americans Governor/General Manager.  "This is an exciting time for Don, his family and our hockey club.  We are proud that he is getting this opportunity to continue to grow as a coach.  This opportunity was long overdue based on his record.  We wish him all the best with the Binghamton Senators."

Binghamton finished their 2008-09 campaign with a 41-30-5-4 record, missing the 2009 Calder Cup Playoffs.
