Okay, this is a great story ... and hopefully it will mollify all our readers who say we only focus on the negative or sensational here at the FanHouse. From the NFL Network's Adam Schefter:
Next weekend, Vikings third-round draft pick Marcus McCauley ... will become the first person in his family to earn a college degree. He will graduate from Fresno State on May 19 with his degree in sociology.
McCauley actually finished the requirements for graduation in December 2006, when in his final semester his grade-point average was a perfect 4.0.
I know what you were thinking as you read the first paragraph -- "yeah, that's swell, but there are a lot of stories of athletes becoming the first in their family to graduate from college." And then you got to the last word in the last sentence. A 4.0? That's ... unbelievable. And I don't care if McCauley was only taking one class -- Coaching Principles and Strategies -- it's still impressive.
Think about it: most college guys who know they'll be playing in the NFL probably are a little lax during their last semester. Hell, some even move to Arizona to learn how to run the 40 and squeeze a few more inches out of their vertical. McCauley not only got all As, he graduated a semester early ... during football season.
See, we can do the heartwarming story here on the FanHouse too.
