Keep in mind that the only thing that don't work is a dead horse.
that only means the compressor is running at idle and not compressing air while opening and closing the handle. Narry enough to significantly drain the battery. Better to let the air escape than to rig/install troublesome switching to conserve that modest amount of air.
My experimenting with a 5/8 X 8" sweep pump is that the supercharging to ~70psi happens very quickly. Which is, IMHO, a welcome pause between strokes.
