What is the theoretical limit on muzzle velocity using CO2?

Firstly, how does one chrony reading prove anything? No mention in the post of it
being a possible bogus reading, which isn't uncommon esp. on the first shot.

Secondly, how does a gun accelerate a pellet to such incredible speeds when
the seals have been compromised? Even with everything in working order, those
speeds for CO2, in .22 on a 12g cartridge no less, are impossible.

From a mechanical point of view, the highly tuned gun should be in a state of
maximum performance where 'forgetting' one part will only worsen performance.
If the seals can handle usual CO2 pressures then no amount of miraculously
increased flow will suddenly blow them... in conclusion, an unusually high
CO2 pressure is the only way to account for this story.

My guess is that the 'thing' he forgot in his hurry was to check that the
CO2 cartridge (maybe lying in the sun) wasn't hot to touch, or forgot to let
it cool. If the story is for real, people should be warned.

Max theoretical speed has to do with how fast sound travels through the gas (i.e pressure
wave) and that speed depends on temperature but not pressure. I believe friction will
stop you from ever reaching the max. theoretical speed. Maybe 1000fps is possible on a
hot day, more in theory if the CO2 is heated futher.

Not sure of the limit but it is rediculasly high if I remember correctly. Have managed a bit over 800 fps with a 14.3 CP @ 70 deg. with a 24 inch barrel. Not at the limit yet but tore the gun apart a couple of months back to make more mods and see what I could do about getting closer to it as well as make it look better. I So there it sits in many pieces like so many other things cars, guns, vacuum cleaners ect. at the moment. Someday I will feel better and get back to all of them? One can always hope.

I used to have a life. But now I have the forum. I am a sick man?

somehere between 800 and 900fps...assuming somewhat normal temperatures(under 100 deg F)
