Guess it's time for a new topic. What does everyone think about Hillary being appointed Secretary of State?
And you might comment on Obama's other cabinet appointments if you like.

I'd rather Hillary be Sec of State than a U.S. Senator.

So far based on his appointments, it looks like Obama is trying to be the 3rd term of the Clinton Administration.

Better that than the leftist socialist administration I was scared he might be bringing about.

The appointment of her excellence Hillary as envoy to the world is a good sign, as is probably the retaining of at least one _W appointee. Always good to co-opt one's competitors.

It's interesting that Canada's arrogant minority PM went out of his way to continue to alienate other Parliamentary parties and it now appears he's out on his ass banned to Stornoway and maybe even to be replaced as leader of the Conservative Party. In any event I like the idea of an ABC (Anybody But Conservatives) coalition - in both our countries.

Yes, I was glad to see this, and I think all his appointments have been good- practical experienced people. A encouraging sign.

You know my opinion of Hilliary has changed a lot. I use to see her as opportunists playing on Bill's popularity but she has worked hard as a senator and has very high approval ratings from her NY constituency and I think she really does care about the issues she talks about and wants to make things better.

Now we can start repairing our very tarnish image abroad and once again make the US respected around the world.

I share Brandon's view that Obama appears to be resurrecting a lot of the Bill Clinton Presidency. Which, I know, to a lot of Americans doesn't sound like such a bad idea. Many people recall the 90's fondly. As for me, I defer judgment. As I've said before: I don't make policy or appointments. What difference does my opinion make? I can't do anything to change it, so why get upset about it? As an American, I should hope for the best . . . wish Obama and Co. the best.

Regardless who is in power, I suspect that the social climate of the U.S. will increasingly be Liberal, as the elder generations decline and pass, and younger folks who tend to embrace Liberal causes take increasing control of the country. I believe that what works, survives, and what doesn't work fails or collapses (kind of evolutionary). So, if the Liberal changes work for the society, they and the society will endure. If the changes don't work, then they and the society will fail. Likely, I will be dead before the worst would happen, so again -- why worry?

Well I think you are right the country is moving left- it oscillates back and forth as people become disillusioned with whatever government they have and the public has gotten pretty disillusioned with the way things are now.

This is not to say Democrats have any great solutions- but people figure that more of the same is sure not the answer.

The report that just came out, that a terrorist attack within the United States is likely within the next 5 years, didn't evoke the response I've seen previously. Heretofore, any such predictions were greeted by claims that the Administration was using "scare tactics" to "Keep Americans too afraid to question whatever military action and deprivation of individual rights the President and his cronies want to pursue."

But now, with President Elect Obama about to take office . . and with his people in attendance as the report was made public . . . there are no such claims of "scare tactics" or hidden agendas. There is no speculation by pols, academia or the media that the warning is anything other than a realistic threat that must be taken seriously and preparations undertaken to address the threat. Interesting difference. Is this what they meant by "change"?

Yeah, Interesting. Someone who has no foreign policy experience appoints someone who has no fireign policy experience to be Secretary of State.

Hmmmm.

I wouldn't say Hilliary has no foreign policy experience, as first lady she did much world traveling and met with many foreign leaders. She will also benefit from the fact that her husband is well liked and respected in the world.

Yes. I think so, and I hope so.
B Clinton left a quite positive image on the international stag: economic growth, and diplomatic moves, such as the camp David meeting.
Let's hope Obama and H Clinton will be able to perform to the same standard.
