The evidence (or, in some cases, lack of evidence) against suicide:

- No fingerprints were ever found on the gun.

- There were no powder burns on the head wound, which would imply the gun was held several inches from the head at the time it was fired, pretty unusual for a suicide.

- His hands were NOT tested for gunpowder residue, so that's no help one way or the other.

- The spent shell was found under his body.

- The gun was found between his feet.

- The police were not called for at least half an hour after the death (although probably so the houseguests could sober up and get their stories straight).

- The supposed "slump" was over. His friends agreed he was happier than had been in years, looking forward to his marriage and to another season of the popular TV show. Money wasn't a problem either; he was getting residuals from the reruns

Many of the pieces of evidence stated above can be easily explained by common logic. And several of the pieces actually point TO suicide rather than another cause:

No fingerprints were ever found on the gun.
This could be because the houseguests, in a freaked out state of mind, decided to wipe the gun clean or perhaps George himself wiped the gun clean before firing it and then held it with a handkerchief or cloth.

There were no powder burns on the head wound, which would imply the gun was held several inches from the head at the time it was fired, pretty unusual for a suicide. Unusual yes, but entirely impossible, no! Hold the gun about a foot from the head and, no powder burns. ALso, it could be that he was handling the weapon, kind of like fidgeting or going through the motions, and it went off in his hands.

The spent shell was found under his body. As the gun fires, the casing quickly ejects onto the bed, then his body falls on top of the casing.

The gun was found between his feet.If he's fiddling with the gun in his hands and it goes off while sitting on the bed, then that would explain why the gun was on the ground AND why there were no powder burns on his hand.

The police were not called for at least half an hour after the death (although probably so the houseguests could sober up and get their stories straight)doesn't rule out suicide, just indicates that everyone was all freaked out by the incident, which would be normal.

The supposed "slump" was over. His friends agreed he was happier than had been in years, looking forward to his marriage and to another season of the popular TV show. Money wasn't a problem either; he was getting residuals from the rerunsDoesn't mean he still wasn't depressed.

I think he went upstairs, drunk and shot himself while sitting on the bed. Mystery solved!
