Hi, my little sugar bears! Back from a break. Hope everyone is doing well and chasing down their baby dreams with vigor and grace.

I'm about to start my very last months of TTC naturally before moving on to DE or adoption. My RE, whom I like quite a bit (K.eefe at NYU) suggested that if I want to consider it, he'd guide me through a few Clomid-assisted cycles as an economical, last-ditch effort at trying with my own eggs. (I can't consider OE IVF or a fully medicated TI cycle since I don't have any insurance coverage for such procedures, and I need to save $$ for DE/adoption)

We'd start a Clomid cycle, then do an ultrasound right before ovulation to see if the medication is actually helping me to develop more follies. If not, we won't bother doing more than one cycle, I'd just go back to TTC naturally, with no meds whatsoever.

I know the prevailing theory is that Clomid isn't ideal for 40+ since it might thin the uterine lining, but I don't know that that fazes me much. Since I'd have a few months--at least--between TTC naturally w/Clomid and a DE attempt, I figure I'd have time to thicken up my uterine lining again. And since I'm looking at doing DE, I"m not worried about how Clomid might affect my FSH, either.

But have any of you tried Clomid after 40? Or, heck, even before 40? Ever? Mostly I'm curious to hear about side-effects, mood swings, changes in your menstrual cycle, any weird bleeding, etc.

Any feedback appreciated.

She is banking embryos and then genetically testing . . . I'm sure she'll be by soon to comment. It seems to be working well for her.

I admittedly had only just turned 40 from memory. I broke out in all over prickly heat rash and felt so miserable mood wise that I only managed a few days on it. I had very high fsh though....
And needless to say, zero luck.

Great to hear from you. I was wondering what you are up to. I've never tried Clomid, but I am thinking about it as well. I'm also doing the last cycle or 2 OE TI before moving to DE, if we can get the process lined up. I'm glad your DH is on board. Good luck to you.

It really depends on the person and you never know which group you belong to.

There are two types of drugs for stim: one indirect (Femara, Clomid, Femara preferred if you do fresh cycle so that lining is less likely to be affected), and direct acting agent like recombinant FSH (Gonal-F, Follistim).

I am not a poor responder on FSH stim, but my ovaries respond too fast. Clomid allows me to stim slowly and nicely, and luckily I have had fewer side effects than on injectables. There are lots of 40+ Clomid success stories so don't worry, if the drug doesn't agree with your body, the half life is pretty short after you stop taking it.

Dear friend,
I´dlike to react to your inquiry since I really experienced thinner uterus lining after Clomid. I´m 41, am undergoing the infertility treatment in Czech Republic. My doctor prescribed Clostilbegyt to me 3 times this year; the basis is identical to the one used in Clomid. I took pills in January, March and May (pills are usually taken during 3 subsequent months, but it was not possible in my case, due to sickness and tiny cyst). Nevertheless, before I took it, my uterus lining reached normal values, but it got thinner during first two Clostilbegyt stimulations, about 5mm in the middle of the cycle, which is below the threshold needed for egg to "take root".. After that, I started to use the folic acid, and intensive herbs extracts recommended for improvement of ´women health´ (alchemilla, etc.).. In May, the uterus lining was 8mm on the 11th day of the cycle and I git 2 oocyts in the native cycle, out of those 2 nice embryos, but unfortunately none of those became a baby after embryotransfer ((( This month the same, very good result(8mm already without Clostilbegyt). Anyway, I was so surprised because doctor said to me that there are no medicaments available to improve the thickness of uterus lining. That´s why I searched in web discussions and got inspired with this advice; I hope it can be helpful to you. Maybe, it´s a coincidence, but I experienced a clear correllation between Clomid and uterus lining thickness.
Wishing a good luck, don´t underestimate herbal products, dietary/food supplements. I´m going to start the native cycle next month again, so crossed fingers to both of us. Doctor accepts that I´m still trying this way one more time (although my AMH is low, FSH high), but if necessary, I would accept donor eggs as well. Chances to get your sweetie baby are 10times higher there. Sorry for my English, bye,
Stella

hi chix.
honestly, i know so little about all this. but i was in basically the same place, trying to figure out if there were some relatively low-tech options for my last couple tries. dumb luck i chose femara and didn't really consider clomid. my understanding is they work in a similar way, but femara doesn't affect the lining. i tried it one time and got 2 follicles going instead of 1. as a poor responder, i always thought doubling the odds each cycle was pretty good. you might ask your RE about femara as an alternative and compare the two options.
good luck, i'm rooting for you...!
