dh and I are seriously thinking about surrogacy and since I am in my late 40's and dh 50 we would need of course Donor Egg & D/sperm (male factor) I have been through the ringer as far as m/c's, BFN's, I feel so strongly that I want a Baby and at this point/stage of my life I need the help of a surrogate.

How do I find a safe clinic?

any idea on how much it would cost?

anyone heard of "womens Gift" fran fox coord.?

ANY INFORMATION would be Great!! Need to get started somewhere.

THANK YOU!

Most major clinics in America work with surrogacy cases so no problems there. You really just need to pick a clinic first after speaking with the doctors and checking their statistics and prices.

Then contact some surrogacy agencies as well as some donor agencies. These are not regulated in America so unfortunately, you can get some real yahoos just hanging out a shingle but who don't really know what they're doing. Other agencies are very professional and above board.

It is hard to say whether it's more challenging to pick a donor or to pick a surrogate, as it just depends on you and what your requirements are. You want to embark on these searches simultaneously because generally a donor or a surrogate will not want to wait around months for you to find the other half. I would think finding a sperm donor should be pretty simple and straightforward as you just order vials from the bank after you select a profile. It's much more complicated finding a donor, making sure she checks out and passes your clinic's requirements, and that her schedule jives with yours.

If you are not too picky about a donor, you could use an anonymous inhouse donor if the clinic you choose has an inhouse donor pool (many do). With most agencies, you can look at donor profiles for free after registering.

There are some agencies that provide both egg donor and surrogate. Agency For Surrogacy Solutions in California (Los Angeles area) does this and they are a good agency.

Good luck!

Fran Fox used to be the head RN of the DE department at Cooper, she left to start her own gestational surrogate agency because she and Dr Check tried to incorporate GS into Coopers program, but Cooper Hospital would not allow it (the hospital funds and insures the clinic, said no way to in house surrogates). A lot of the surrogates at Cooper come from Fran Foxs agency now. I believe she also has egg donors as part of her agency too, I had signed up to see their database of both donors and surrogates a while ago when I was looking around.

Using donor sperm at the same time as DE and GS complicates things, just to warn you. It may make a big difference in where your surrogate lives and gives birth, some counties that normally allow DE + GS have a harder time approving it with DS because there is no genetic connection with the IPs. You will have to be really really careful that you don't get put in a position to have to adopt the baby. It can certainly be done but is very rare and you will need a lawyer who knows which judges in which counties in which states are going to approve it, without the surrogate having to move away from her family to give birth somewhere else where a judge will approve it.

I don't know that much about the history of Woman's Gift or Fran, although I have seen a few recommendations for that agency. Two other agencies that I have heard good reviews, and seem to have lower fees, are Expect Miracles out of CA and Earthly Angels. I have also heard good reviews about Agency for Solutions, the agency that BBG mentioned. They are also based out of CA. But, it really doesn't matter where the agency is based out of, it matters what state your surrogate lives in. It is VERY important that you go to a surro friendly state, and one that is friendly towards your situation. For instance, TX is a surro friendly state, as long as you are married. Same as FL. Not sure about the genetic connection part, though. Some are surro friendly for gestational, but not traditional surrogacy. You also have the added problem of not having a genetic connection, so some of the states that are surro friendly, the judges base the PBO on there being a genetic connection present. And, in most states, it varies not only by state, but by county. The pp was so right in that you need to have an ART attorney in the state where the GC will give birth. They can advise you best. I do know that CA is the MOST surro friendly state, as there are state laws that protect the IPs, and you are not at the mercy of a judge whether or not he will grant a PBO. You definitely want that PBO. Otherwise you will be paying for an adoption, ON TOP of a surrogacy. Can we say, million dollar baby???? I realize that CA is clear across the country from you, so maybe you can find a situation that will work for you a bit closer.

California is probably the most surrogate friendly state there is and it's true that if you do both donor sperm and donor egg and surrogacy, you will need a liberal state. Try to find a surrogate from California who will give birth in California. An egg donor can fly to California for the retrieval after being monitored in her home state (or, you might even find a donor in California).

Fran Fox is a good person but I never had luck getting her to respond to my emails. I sometimes wonder if she got in a bit over her head.

I used The Donor Solution in Houston TX (that is the agency that Agency for Surrogacy Solutions often suggests) and they were pretty good, reasonable prices, professional and reliable. But there are many good donor agencies.

Some people find their donors and surrogates independently online but if I were you, I would not do that. You have too many complications and you really could use an agency to pave the way for you.

You definitely want to get a pre-birth order! Not all states will do this. California will. Basically in the second trimester, your attorney sends a document to the court asking for the judge to sign a pre-birth order that directs the hospital to put your and your husband's name on the birth certicate (instead of the surrogate's name). Very important.
