I was fortunate to get into a minute clinic on Saturday and get macrobid for my UTI (allergic to sulfa and penicillin...limited choices), but it really did not improve things. I still have a lot of urgency and pressure, though no burning (never really had that).

So my OBGYN saw me today (busy with meetings all day yesterday), looked at the pee, and saw only trace white cells...we were a bit stymied.

I HOPE I AM NOT GETTING A RETURN OF INTERSTITIAL CYSTITIS. Could the steroids cause it?

I am on Cipro now for 7 days. Please, please, please UTI, go away!

How frustrating for you, especially since I know you're cycling right now! I wish I had something wise to suggest, but all I can say is that I'll be thinking lots of positive thoughts for you. I hope it gets better VERY soon. ((Hugs))

They should be able to tell whether you have a UTI from a urine culture -- please don't tell me they're not actually taking a urine sample. I don't know whether steroids can cause it, but my understanding is that menopause is a major cause of interstitial cystitis. I've never been diagnosed, but have persistent bladder discomfort (among other things) when not on HRT. Take care, Maggie (in VA)

ETA: Sorry, I realized you said the MD looked at your urine. Old age setting in. Or twins. Or both.

I was on Macrobid (which is in the macrodantin family) I believe. It sort of worked...but not enough. I had IC when I was in my 20s...not sure why. I haven't had it in ages.

A Minute Clinic looked at my urine strip test and gave me macro bid, as soon as I had time to get into my OBGYN, they took the sample and both gave me Cipro and are culturing it out. But oddly, the sample only showed trace white cells..which was always my problem when I had the IC.

I think the Cipro may be kicking in, though, I think I am feeling a little better than earlier today...

Wish me luck!

Hi M,
Take the bicarb in water as it will get rid of the symptoms immediately. Meanwhile, take the antibiotics so it gets rid of it too. Then drink the cranberry juice or take cranberry tablets each day to keep it away.
I used to get cyistitis bad in winter but taking the cranberry I don't get it anymore.
Also, if you notice you get a bit of a UTI then it goes away fairly quickly with no medication at all becareful as this usually means it is getting up the courage for a full scale attack on your a few weeks later. It hasn't gone its just revving its engines so to speak.
That used to happen to me quite a lot... it would come on and then go quickly and a few weeks later I'd be really quite ill, good luck with it, THK

I'm not a regular sufferer of thrush but I have had UTI's in the past many time and I worry about kidney infections as I have had UTI's develop into kidney infections when they were not cleared properly by the antibiotic. Anyway, recently I had two diagnosis of UTI's, one in Jan and another exactlly a month later in Feb. Some white cells showed up on the dip stick test and so they sent sample off to lab for testing. The strange thing was the UTI lab result initially came back as inconclusive on both occasions but a repeat suggested possible UTI so I was given antibiotics. When in March the symptoms returned again just three weeks later (two weeks from ending course of antibiotics) the dip test showed traces of white cells but the sample culture came back clear. My doc then suggested it was thrush and treated me accordingly but I think the symptoms were identical as the first two times and I wonder if I had thrush all along and it was just misdiagnosed. Then of course the antibiotics would make the thrush worse. My symptoms were frequent urination during the day as well as vaginal itch mainly at night and a very slight white discharge, very minimal. If you've had thrush before you probably will know the difference but since I only had it once in my life prior to this I had forgotten the symptoms and now that i know I really think I didn't have a UTI on the earlier occasions. Its just a thougtht.....
