Just read a few books whilst away and can highly recommend 2 of them.
1. The originals, true story of the birth of the SAS, founded by David Sterling.
2. Red Platoon, true story of American troops in Afghanistan.
Both are the best reads Ive ever read for that genre and get you into the mind of the soldiers fighting, the SAS book guides you through how it was all started through many of their OPs and what happened at the end of the war.
The yanks in Nuristan (afghan war) ..well, impossible to understand what these men went through and how above them in the skies were masses of stacked up airpower all trying desperately to help their comrades being overwhelmed by taliban fighters with much more ground fire and men, a graphic read of death, destruction and sheer bravery.
