I came across a reference to Joe Bent the other day, which brought back memories. I spent a local election day with him in the mid 1960s in London once, and was knocking on doors and handing out leaflets etc with him. He was one of those unforgettable comrades, with very close ties with his locality (Southwark). Graham Stephenson's entry suggests, but does state, that he is dead. Does anyone have any additonal information about him?

Googling for more information on Joe, I found that he was a close friend of Jean Ross (whose extraordinary life is summarised in an entry on Graham Stephenson's site). Googling for more information about JR I found the following. The final comment on Bush amused me.

I had a look at the 'obit' which was by my old YCL oppo and craft printer Dick Maunders (now living in bucolic peace in Devon), and i guess from the way it was written that Joe was, indeed, dead. Trying to google a bit more, i found little if anything about Joe, but i did come acorss this fascinating website. A little goldmine in that it has the complete editions of the New Reasoner and the first five years of the Universities and Left Review on its Archive link, as well as a selection of early pamphlets from the CPGB History Group.
