Tore down my Dad's FE out of his '68 Mustang, took the block and crank to the machine shop, long story short the engine turned out to be a 410FE. My Dad bought this particular Mustang about 20 years ago, and the owner claimed that everything was original except the carb. I did a little research, and it appears this Mustang was built around the time Ford had just resolved a big strike. Apparently parts were short, so Ford built cars with any parts they had laying around. Is it possible that this car actually came with a 410 instead of a 390?

Are the stock rods out of a 410 pretty strong, or should we look at getting some new rods? We are planning on upping the horsepower a bit.
