There's a question.  I can't remember a photo of a C-melody sax instrument, post ~1930.  Would an alto neck fit into a C-mel sax?  I don't know.

Tube length is a key factor in root tonic instrument pitch, I'd suppose.  Mismatch alto / C-mel / tenor sax necks on alto / C-mel / tenor sax key-tube bodies, I'd guess, and you'd have horns which could not play in tune.  Correction invited!  Really guessing here.

I guess I'll go on record with my guess that it's an alto. It seems a little short to be a C melody. The only C melody I'm aware of with a straight neck is the Conn and that's definitely not a Conn.

My first guess was 'alto.' I think there's a picture of Trumbauer standing next to an airplane with a straight-necked C melody.

The necks would definitely not be interchangeable. And a High Pitch neck would not work on a standard pitch horn. I doubt you could do well with a mismatched neck even between models, let alone makers.

C melody it is. My first thought was that it was too long to be an alto, but I hadn't seen one with that body style before and a straight neck. Tram was a pretty big guy, so the perspective is a little tricky.
