...is featured in the trailer for the upcoming movie, "Beginners," starring Ewan McGregor, and Christopher Plummer, and it sounds so divine!

The soundtrack has Hoagy's version of 1933, Victor 24484. You can hear the complete version in

Hoagy doesn't sing -- or whistle -- in the '33 Victor, but he does recreate that marvelous original solo from 1927:

(or you can click on this link and scroll down for Victor 24484: http://www.redhotjazz.com/hoagy.html)

The one we hear in the trailer was recorded in 1942. Fancy stuff about matrix numbers and whatnot, as well as a link to listen to the recording, is here (again, scroll down, this time to the end of the page):

Of course, they're both wonderful recordings. And they will never, ever go out of style.

You will notice that there are two listings for Hoagy playing "Stardust," both described as from 1933 and as Victor 24484: One on top of the page and another down the page, the 21st listing. I clicked on the first only, assuming that both links led to the Victor 1933 version.. They do not. The first link (which is the one I gave in my previous posting)

http://www.jazz-on-line.com/a/ramr/RiVic24484.ram

leads, as correctly pointed out by Barbara (thanks, Barb) to the 1947 Decca version [vocal and whistling, the version used in the trailer], although it is described as being a Victor 1933 recording. The second,

http://www.jazz-on-line.com/a/rama/VIC78842-1.ram

described as being from 1933, does indeed lead to the Victor 1933 version (piano only, no vocal, no whistling).
