On March 19, 1931, Whiteman opened a two-week engagement at the Palace Theater.

Another act in the show was Russ Columbo's accompanied at the piano by composer/manager Con Conrad. And there is the connection. Bix recorded two of Conrad's compositions:

I don't have it at my fingertips, but wasn't Columbo in the orbit of Jean Goldkette somewhere along the same time as Bix/Tram?

Russ was born in Camden, NJ and moved to Philadephia as a child and to Los Angeles in 1924. He joined Gus Arnheim the following year. No connection to Goldkette.
