Can I take a moment to plug the best RAF event in the UK?

East Kirkby, super friendly home to 'Just Jane' Lancaster MkVII NX611 will be hosting EK43 from Sat 23rd May-Monday 25th May 2009.

Can't reccomend it highly enough after last yr....

I have to make a trip over and that might be a good weekend to plane the trip around. I go to Lincolnshire anyway.

You seem to make a lot of trips over Chris; business related or just for pleasure?

I agree, what kind of event...?

Hi Guys!

It's a living history event, basically we take over the airfield. The lads do their thing and us WAAFS/ATA gals take over the control tower or plotting table.
I can't reccomend it highly enough.
Saturday is open to the public finishing off with a Hangar Dance with the lovely Jane as a backdrop and on sunday (the museum is closed) we all put on our best 40s attire, go to Petwood Hall (home of the Dambusters Officers Mess) for dinner, followed by a period film in The Kinema in the Woods (a 1920s cinema complete with organ and sing along at the start of the film!!!)
Monday is back to the museum with flying displays and more living history.

It really is THE best RAF event, with lovely friendly staff and super history that you can get up close to. I can't tell you how amaxing it is to be in that control tower 'working' where WAAFs worked, bringing the bombers home safely.

For more info contact the museum.

As ive said before, Im not a reinactor, but I did that event last year as a Chaplain, so would quite like to again. Trouoble is, collecting the gear I have is not made to measure, and you find out after a few hours its not always comfortable. Aside from an RAAF or RAF Chaplain, about the only other thing I can get into comfortably is an ROC uniform!

Alex, if you have a sidcot suit you could wear that tucked into boots, and then some 33.pattern gauntlets over the top. It would look smarter in my opinion...

I do actually have a tailor Suit, which I could wear, but I think the aircrew side of things is already well covered.
