Gerry,

Thanks. Do you know what the important dimensions are?

It looks completely different from what I envisioned.

In discussion with Stephen K. at Pegasus, we have learned that the photo in Gerry's link shows a different dye marker pack than what Stephen is familiar with. As the one in the photo in the link supplied has an A crown M, can it be assumed with some certainty that it is wartime? Can anything be garnered from the contract number? We are wroking on getting some of these made up for sale.

The AM mark was replaced with the broad-arrow around 1943 time wasn't it....?

Hi Chris

Sorry I don't have measurements but I'm sure David F would be able to supply them for you. The photo definitely shows the standard WW2 dye marker for the 41 pattern although there was an earlier version that started to appear on late 32 patterns (that one had a fabric cover) and was then used in the early 41 patterns. I've had a look at the Pegasus site and that dye marker looks more like an American one to me?

Yes it was 44 - although it took years (sometimes decades) to use up certain AM marked stock - so best way to put it is manufactured pre 44 as opposed to used pre 44 (and even then some manufacturers didn't change over to the arrow until the 50s!)

Gerry,

I visited Stephen K. today and he is in the midst of borrowing both types for reproduction. Others besides myself have requested them. He is also working on the later type of p41 kapoks, the kind that have a linen type of texture and are connected together with a small length of tape between the three pieces.

cheers

I've never seen 41 pattern kapoks connected together - only 32 patterns. Any pics?

Why would later kapoks be connected? Are you sure that they're later Chris? Because the earlier ones were made of the same material as the 32 pattern ones...
