Remove subject line from thread replies

Hey guys - currently on my board we have the automatic population of the subject box for replies disabled (people can fill it in if they wish, but it was universally agreed upon that thousands of posts all saying "Re: <subject>" were annoying).

Tapatalk appears to automatically fill this field in without regard to the forum setting. So either 1) is it possible for Tapatalk to pay attention to this value, or 2) explain how I can remove this auto-population?

    Thanks!

    Hi Chris,

Just wondering if this is a feature built-in in vB or it is accomplished via a third-party plugin? Either way you may want to mess with a line or two of our plugin code to make this happen. If you feel comfortable I think Yao will be able to tell you exactly what need to be changed.

just out of curiosity why does it bother u that tapatalk posts it? im asking cause maybe i need to take that into consideration myself.

It's a built-in feature of vbulletin. If you log into the admincp and go to Options -> Message Posting and Editing Options, there is an option for "Automatically Quote Post / Thread Title" which I currently have set to "No". (So when people log in using a web browser and reply to a thread, the subject is blank unless they feel like adding it.) It looks like it's set the same here as well (the "Title" of my post is currently blank).

It's bothersome because every other post made lacks the additional subject associated with posts. We've all grown accustomed to not needing it, especially with the robust quoting system that vbulletin has. (I'm also not a fan of the Subject's new look in vB4.)

I've implemented a dirty fix that we're happy with so far, though it's not ideal. I've commented out one of the appropriate lines that submits the subject to my forums so it ends up posting as blank. However, this makes the Title/Subject of a given post useless as no matter what value is inputted it will be ignored.

(It's also hard for me to personally test since I have a BB and not an iPhone or Android device).

We have been talking about this also few weeks ago as we don't see the Subject line in Reply being used at all nowaday, we were thinking even streamlining (i.e. remove) it so to make the UI less clutter.

Likewise you don't see "Subject" in Buzz or in Facebook comments.
