We are very sorry about the release day has postponed. The Apple's approval process takes much more time than we supposed.

Sorry for that again.

Yah guys, the new built that we submitted to Apple has a new "Subscribed" feature and Apple has a problem with some minor wording problem - we submitted a new one two days ago and now keeping our finger crossed again... :o

Deep apology - we should have just told Apple the new version is "minor bug fixes only"

All in all a lot of hard work to get over the pain from Apple, since different forum server behave a little differently and hard to catch every single error!! But at this rate I guess we are catching all of them pretty soon!!

Attached is the Private Message in development, just a little candy bar for everyone that it does going somewhere!

yah we understood but it takes time to fine-tuning it, plus too many new features in one release confuses apple test team.. :D

Having that said we can't wait to get all these onto your hands ASAP.

I hear it doesn't take much to confuse the Apple Test Team.... ;)

Do we have a likely release date yet?

I posted on my forum to say release on the 1st June. This has created a lot of interest for you guys, but lots of nagging for me :P

1 week, 2 weeks away?

I know the longer it goes, people tend to loose interest. Reminds me of Gran Turismo and how they keep pushing back release dates..lol

movslow, I know how it feels - the team here is learning an important lesson from Apple. Nothing we can do except keeping our finger cross.... and keep coding...:o

yeah this is a major complaint about the app store from devs. i don't understand why after a year they haven't improved the process time. based on apps for android i guess its a good thing. a lot of junk is in the android market. poorly designed user interfaces. some of the apps are just plain ugly and not pleasing to the eyes. that's my major complaint against BB apps. they are so plain and ugly when u compare them to iphone apps. haha

I understand...nothing of course directed towards the team or the project, just frustrating.

If the devs are going to continue coding on it while waiting for apple, good on them because at the end of the day we are going to be getting a fuller app.

Keep it up guys we've managed without something like this for years I am sure we can manage some more without it lol

That works out good as long as Apple doesn't keep jerking the dev team around each time they want to release an update.

The dev team is doing an awesome job though, and they are working on other things parallel to this too!

iFonz
June 22nd, 2009, 12:30
so any updates on when we should expect it in the app store? just give it to us straight. hahah

peachy
June 23rd, 2009, 16:12
I'm sure the devs are doing a good job and all but I think it would be good to set a realistic date that this might be in the app store and stick to that.

I noticed that a new plugin was released for vB too, I didn't get a notification it had been updated from vbulliten.org, maybe that was my mistake. I guess this is still beta since you haven't reached 1.0 yet?

Maybe a basic roadmap might help and a more predictable release cycle? I can see this plugin being quite successful, but I take changes to our prod forum reasonably seriously, I don't want to update it every few weeks.

Can you notify everybody on you mailing list when it the vb plugin hits 1.0 and the client is accepted in the app store? I think I'll remove the forum plugin before then because it isn't adding any value.

Sorry to sound negative, but this is a commercial venture for you so hopefully you won't take the comments personally.

peachy,

We totally understand how you feel.. and yes we are releasing the vb plugin as often as we can during this pre-release period aim to fix bugs that can immediately benefit the forum owner currently on the list. And as soon as it reaches 1.0 we will slow it down a bit.

We also plan to notify the forum owner after the 1.0 - to send notification and such in more professional manner.

What we are doing now is to nail down the last few bugs from the server-side prespective - e.g. we fixed one important language display problem few days ago that wouldn't be possible with your participate.

As for setting the realistic lanuch date, in fact we tried two times, once in May 1st and once in June 1st. But both got push back because of something unexpected e.g. Apple found some jail-breaking discussion within a forum and instantly they rejected it. But on the other hand they did find some bugs which does make the Tapatalk experience whole lot better.

So the bottom line is, the current version pending on apple is satifactory enough (at least for U.S. Locale) and it can be on the store anytime from now.

Not to be rude, but you can't really hold the Tapatalk Development Team responsible for a release date, they are not the ones holding up the process. As Winter said, they tried to give us dates in the past and then Apple rejected their release as stated. I've hear a lot of horror stories about the app approval process, so I don't blame them for not suggesting any more release dates.

No worries i don't take it as rude. :)

Of course they are not the ones holding up the process but June 1st when Apple were releasing 3.0 a few weeks later (and had a freeze on new apps) was unrealistic.

I too have heard a lot of "horror stories" about the Apple approval process but what is a reasonable turnaround time for Apple? How many apps do you think they have to review? Anything less than 2 months is extremely good going IMO.

I'm not trying to bitch at the Tapatalk team just offer constructive criticism, they could stand to make a lot of money on this but they need buy in from forum owners, if they are not able to keep dates then people loose interest and the project risks loosing momentum.
