First off I think that Tapatalk looks very cool, and I wouldn't mind adding it to my vB system, But the only thing that concerns me is that each of my users that wish to use this program, would be paying 3$. So now the "Free Community" doesn't really apply to the tag lines of some websites. I don't agree that the USERS of a forum should have to pay any amount to make their browsing more convenient. I believe that the fee for your services should be paid by the forum OWNER. I would gladly pay an $x amount to make it so that the users can again, FREELY "purchase" the Tapatalk App from the AppStore, to use while browsing my websites. Purhaps redesigning the way it is purchased.

I have a great idea for you, Get back with me if you'd like the intel...

All-in-All, the purchase should be the responsibility of the forum OWNER, not end users... I personally wouldn't pay anything to be able to browse a so called Free Community. Would You? Convenient or not. I'd much rather code a .mobi template (which already is implemented) for my users.

Thanks for this app though, great idea :D

this was how i felt also but MANY forum owner complained about having to pay a yearly fee. we should be able to purchase codes to give to our users. ive done so already. not sure how often this can be done or if it can still be done.

but i would pay for the app to view a forum. i mean hell its only three bucks. if i visit a particular forum often then i dont see no reason why i can't part with 3 bucks for an app. but i still think it would of been better to have owners pay for it. many users would of downloaded the app and bugged their forum owner to add it to their forum.

I'm both a forum owner and a user and I choose to make the users pay for it.

If you are that upset about the price buy it for them or remburse them, problem solved.

I'm not a forum owner but I do visit one daily and honestly the app is $3 not $25 I can find that in my sofa. The app makes browsing so much easier and faster. I don't think u should worry too much about the cost

I never spoke up when the change was being discussed but as they say, the squeeky wheel gets the grease.

I would have paid an annual fee to allow this app to be a free download for members.

But we are now past that so I'm wondering if there is a way for me to offer certain members codes to get the app for free? How does that work?

I have a paid membership package and ideally would like to add the TapaTalk app as a perk for them.

Like iFonz said the easiest way (but not elegant) is the reimburse your fellows on paypal. No other obvious way to do it..

I agree the charging system seems to be a bit back to front at first glance, but in the end it's only a cup of latte for most users, and they also get to use the app for many more than just my forum. I think the devs have done an outstanding job of encapsulating a web-based forum into an app. Even if I were the only one to use it (out of a membership of many thousands) it's worth skipping a coffee for a day ;).

although 3 dollars isn't anything to most people and personally love this app so far...maybe in the future forum owners can get the chance to buy an annual package to hand out x number of codes out to entice users to own the tapatalk app set for say one or two favorites, this way the end user is limited to using it on said forum they are a member of and an extra one...sorta like a vip package deal...who knows what the future will hold for this...

Thanks for the response Paul.. and we strive to make it better and take this to next level.

Be sure to submit new idea and bugs to this community so we can keep improving it. :)

Yup - we intend to provide more options, when the app is mature enough ;)

I believe there should be an option for forum owners to pay for this for their customer base. Perhaps a members log in area and allow the owner to purchase X Amount of licenses that the users can use to get to a free version of the program and then allow them to upgrade to the full version using a coupon code.

Winter - listen to the customers - this is a service that is very much wanted - please do not just blow off the idea as un-doable. Everything is do-able if you want to do it. Thanks.

Bladyblue, yup again we hear you all - and we know that charging to user is not something every forum owner want. We will provide more option where Apple allows.

As for the coupon code thing - no it is not something Apple will support or approve - But one potential option is we can allow forum owner to pay in bulk and, from our side we can release a free version that's only connect to the "paid forums"?

The team here try not to think about this as much - as it gets distracting - there are still number of things in our plate like bugs and small new features that we want to focus before we do anything new on the commercial side.

I think having the user pay is the best option when you consider how Tapatalk is setup. If it only worked for a single site, then no question, having the forum owner front the cost would be the way to go. Also, if someone has an iPhone it's a fairly safe bet they have $3 for the app when you consider the cost of the phone and the monthly fees associated with having one. If you were reimbursing your users you'd need a good method of determining that the users in question use your site (post count perhaps) and are not there to get a freebie. I'd also have them forward the receipt from Apple. All in all I think it is rather absurd to make such a big deal about the $3 for the app and creating unnecessary work for yourself. If your forum is already free then they have a method of still using it for free from their iPhone by using Safari and no one is forcing the Tapatalk option on them. Your user base must be really small because there is no way I'd consider adding the much administrative overhead for a $3 app.
