Tapatalk API allows third-party developers to develop forum systems plugin or mobile application that talks the Tapatalk language. We believe openness and we believe that by opening up the API document it fosters innovations on forum access beyond web browser. The same API has been implemented on four major forum systems and has proven to work with few thousands of discussion forums worldwide.
Plug-in Development
As a developer you can develop Tapatalk-compatibile plugin for a specific forum systems that works with the Tapatalk app. You are interested in this API mainly because:
- Your forum is heavily customized and would like to "hack" existing Tapatalk plugin to work with your system.
- The current available plugins does not cover your forum system and you would like to write your own plugin
- You develop your own forum system and you would like to write your own plugin
- Your organization develops forum system and is looking into the possibility of enabling Tapatalk support for your users (forum owners).
As a Plug-in developer, there is no cost of using this API and can enjoy our excellent developer support, however you agree to:
- Not redistributing our plugin and retain all copyright information in the source-code
- Add a "Powered by Tapatalk" at the bottom of your website where you deployed Tapatalk plugin, links to tapatalk.com
App Development
This API also allows you to develop your own app that works with any Tapatalk-activated forum system. This is especially useful if you are running a large community and would like to develop your own app. It allows you:
- To add additional features to your existing app that need integration with your existing forum system. For example Single Sign-On.
- To develop mobile app similar to what Tapatalk team has developed. A perfect example is a Windows Phone 7 app by Board Express, and a WebOS Tapatalk compatibile client by Newness Development.
As an app developer, there is no cost of using this API, however you agree that:
- Mentioning of "Tapatalk" in your product communication, news, website, announcement. A short phase such as "Tapatalk compatible client" would suffice.
- Add "Powered by Tapatalk" within your app predominantly.
- Not redistributing our plugins and any other copyrighted materials.
